LA's Moving Units play shows in Auckland and Wellington this month with a solid lineup of local bands in both cities.
In Auckland the Fanatics and the Reduction Agents will be on audience warm-up duty. The Fanatics have just released a 12" version of their very well-received 'Fanatics' EP. The duo have had more b-Net radio play than you can shake a sampler at. The Reduction Agents are based in Auckland and feature members of the Brunettes, Gasoline Cowboy and the Heavy Jones trio in their ranks; listen out during the set for their debut single Urban Yard.
Wellington boasts the Shocking Pinks and Charlie ASH in the hot seat. The Shocking Pinks have just released their second album 'Mathematical Warfare' on Flying Nun. Charlie ASH are a pretty new band, having played their first show on November 19 2004; and their membership includes Rosie Riggir, one of the masterminds behind the Box performance spectacular which won the 'Best Production Design' award at the Wellingtom Fringe Awards held on March 6th.
By 2003, America and the rest of the world had taken notice of Moving Units and the band was hand-picked by Damon Albarn to open Blur's North American Tour. Contemporaries Hot Hot Heat invited the band to tour across the US and throughout the UK. Recently, a secret show on the eve of the Coachella festival found Moving Units opening for none other than the Pixies.
bbc.co.nz said: "Pre Franz, Pre The Rapture, Pre Bloc Pary, pre the punck funk revolution and inventive rock n roll that has happened over the last 12 months or so, there was a band called Moving Units."
They have recently released their debut album 'Dangerous Dreams'.
