Outward Sound Recipients Round 4 2012

18th December 2012

Outward Sound have announced the fourth and final round of grant recipients for 2012.

Three Stage One grants were awarded.

Tom Lark - Stage 1

2012 has seen Tom Lark going from strength to strength. Performances at both the Going Global and Big Sound showcases had local and overseas attendees gushing with enthusiasm, with some international VIPs following the band to every show.

Since then they have been playlisted on a number of US college radio stations and were featured in the New York tastemaker blog We Are Hunted, peaking at #2 on their Alternative/Indie chart.

Tom Lark were funded to showcase at the CMJ  Music Marathon 2012 where they performed to an array of US college radio programmers and music industry insiders.

Donna Dean Music Limited - Stage 1

Donna Dean started her music career at the age of eleven when she composed her first song. Since that humble beginning she has steadily gained ground, finding her feet both as an artist and as a professional musician. In that time she has always stuck to what she does best: writing songs and performing them.

Donna has earned the respect of her peers, achieving industry esteem by twice winning the Tui Award for Best Country Album for 'What Am I Gonna Do?' (2011) and 'Money' (2004), and twice winning the APRA Award for Best Country Song for What Am I Gonna Do? (2011) and Work It Out (2004). Her song Destination Life was the title track for American bluegrass singer-songwriter Rhonda Vincent's 2009 Grammy nominated album.

Already a veteran touring artist in Europe and Australia, Donna Dean will spend a portion of 2013 finally taking her music to the birthplace of Americana, touring throughout the Southwestern American states. Joining Donna will be a small film crew who will document the tour process on a daily basis, with a feature length film planned for future release.

The Jury and the Saints - Stage 1

Formed in 2009, The Jury and the Saints have notched up an impressive list of successes. C4TV picked up the band's first single, Brand New, as the channel's promo song as well as showing a short documentary about the band and their music. The video for Brand New became the number one most played video on C4 that year and a top five single on Myspace music. Not long after this the band were asked to support global hit makers Paramore on their NZ tour. Paramore loved the band so much they invited the guys on a full Australasian tour to an overwhelming response. Their latest release the EP titled Revival debuted at No.4 on the NZ top 40 chart, and No.1 on the NZ singles chart, peaking at No.2 in the NZ top 40 chart and selling over 7,500 copies.

In late 2012 the band signed to Warner Music Germany subsidiary SPV. Invited to support the hugely successful German/Italian band Frei.Wild, the band will be performing at five sold out stadium shows throughout Germany and preparing the European release of their forthcoming full-length album.

Applications for the next round of Outward Sound grants close on April 22nd 2013 at 5pm.
