Kobalt launches Label Services division in NZ and Australia
13th November 2012
Worldwide music publisher Kobalt Music Group has launched Kobalt Label Services [KLS] in New Zealand and Australia.
The Label Services are presented as an alternative to the traditional label model and offer a number of services including digital and physical distribution, marketing, synch licensing, royalty accounting and more - all while the artist retains ownership of their masters.
Additionally Kobalt has penned a physical distribution agreement with Australian-based independent label Inertia, which will handle retail sales and physical distribution for KLS in Australia and NZ. Digital distribution will be handled by Kobalt-owned music distributors AWAL.
Ben Godding, who has previously held roles with Universal Music Australia and EMI UK and EMI Australia, will head the new operation as Manager of Label Services.
Paul Hitchman, Managing Director of Kobalt Label Services, said: "Australia and New Zealand are important markets for Kobalt Label Services releases, and we are therefore thrilled to be able to offer our clients the best possible retail sales representation in the territory via our partnership with Inertia. We aim to offer the best of both worlds -- expert local representation for physical sales in all of the key markets worldwide combined with global digital distribution via our own AWAL platform."
