Gotye heads US mid-year chart with 5.5 million downloads

Gotye's world-beating single Somebody That I Used To Know, featuring our Kimbra, was America's highest selling single of the first six months of 2012, according to the Nielsen SoundScan mid-year charts.
In that period the track was downloaded 5.5 million times, leaving Fun.'s We Are Young (5 million) and Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe (4.1 million) to pick up the silver and bronze placings.
Six tracks sold over three million downloads in the first six months. Adele's '21' again tops the mid-year chart for albums with 3.6 million sales - having previously topped the mid-year and end-year charts in 2011, with 2.5 and 5.8 million scans respectively. Lionel Richie came a very distant second with his 'Tuskegee' selling 912,000.
