The last day of NZ Music Month proved a big one in all kinds of ways and sorts of genres, including our oft-forgotten country music artists with the announcement, at the New Zealand Country Music Awards in Gore, of winners of the APRA Best Country Music Song of 2012 and RIANZ Best Country Music Album.
Tami Neilson claimed her third Tui in four years on the strength of her album 'The Kitchen Table Sessions Vol II'. The Canadian-born Neilson, who now lives in Auckland, also won a Tui for the first album in the 'Kitchen Table' series, so is clearly onto a winning formula.
The APRA Best Country Music Song for 2012 was judged to be Delaney Davidson's ballad You’re A Loser. The Christchurch-based folk/country troubadour is also enjoying a major purple patch awards-wise. You’re A Loser is from Delaney’s 2011 album 'Bad Luck Man', which also includes the track Little Heart which brought him overdue attention as a finalist in the 2011 APRA Silver Scroll Awards. With six solo albums under his belt, Delaney spends his time between his hometown of Christchurch and living and touring in Europe. He is also part of musical collective The Harbour Union.
