Kimbra has been nominated in the shortlist for the 2012 Australian Music Prize (AMP) for her debut album ‘Vows’.
The annual award is given to an
Australian band or solo artist in recognition of the merit of an album released
in the past calendar year. In a similar vein to our very own Taite Music Prize, the AMP aims to reward originality, creativity and
musicianship regardless of sales figures or genre.
Hamilton-born Kimbra (Johnson) is eligible for the award having resided in Australia since the cut-off date of January 1st, 2010. And, the 21-year-old is no stranger to accolades for her talent across the ditch, recently being named Best Female Artist at the 2011 Australian Recording Association Music Awards.
Also in the running for the AMP, and a healthy cash injection of AUS$30,000 are Aussie locals: Abbe May, Gotye, Adalita, Boy & Bear, Gumumul, Jack Ladder & The Dreamlanders, The Middle East and The Jezabels.
The winner will be announced on Thursday, March 8.
