Hot on the heels of their wildly successful retrospective album gig tour and timing sweetly with the launch of their eighth album, Shihad will be recognsed at the 2010 NZ Music Awards with the NZ Herald Legacy Award and induction into the NZ Music Hall of Fame.
Named Most Promising group way back at the 1991 Music Awards, Shihad have long held the mantle of the country’s leading rock act and have scooped up a stack of Tuis in their 22-year career, including Group of the Year in 1993, International Achievement in ‘95 and 2000 and Top Male vocalist in 1995 and ‘99.
Shihad was formed by vocalist and guitarist Jon Toogood and drummer Tom Larkin in 1988 with Phil Knight on guitars and Karl Kippenberger on bass guitar rounding out a line-up that hasn’t changed in more than two decades.
The band’s latest album ‘Ignite’, which harks back to the glorious power of their earliest albums, is due to be released September 20th. Their previous albums are ‘Churn’, ‘Killjoy’ (gold), ‘Shihad’ (gold), ‘The General Electric’ (double platinum), ‘Pacifier’ (double platinum), ‘Pacifier Live’ (gold), ‘Love Is The New Hate’ (platinum) and 2008’s ‘Beautiful Machine’ (gold).
