Finalists for University of Auckland Songwriter of the Year competition
31st August 2010
Six emerging artists currently studying popular music at the School of Music will perform their original songs at The University of Auckland’s Songwriter of the Year 2010 competition. On 29 September, the finalists (Janine Foster, Earl Ho, Rose Howcroft, Phil Kim, Tamsyn Miller and Martin Paris) will compete for $1500 worth of MusicWorks credit and recording time at Beaver Studios. The winners will be selected by a judging panel including Jan Hellriegel (General Manager Native Tongue Music Publishing), Simon Holloway (Beaver Studios), Stuart Seager (Juice TV) and a representative of Kiwi FM. The concert also features the winning solo artists chosen from the Songwriter of the Year: Schools Competition held in June this year. Talented young musicians Massad-Barakat Devine (Sacred Heart College) and Jayme Fitzgerald (Tauhara College) will each perform a set of their original songs.
