The Upbeats Attract International Attention

28th March 2004

Tracks from Wellington duo the Upbeats' debut album are poised to be released through a swag of some of the most respected labels in the world including Vicious Music Group, Incite Recordings and Hostile Recordings in the US, and Protogen Recordings in Germany.

The duo, Jeremy Glenn and Dylan Jones, have joined fellow locals Concord Dawn, Bulletproof and Shapeshifter in stamping Aotearoa’s brand of drum’n’bass firmly on the world stage.

Loop Recordings Aot(ear)oa are proud to present their debut album, The Upbeats, which brings together an impressive spectrum of broken beat tracks.

Previously released material by The Upbeats has included 'US Hermits' on the Alpine Unity compilation, Passenger and 'Deep Breath' appearing on the Fabel Music compilation In 2 Deep. Their latest track, ‘Psyesta’, made the cut on the recently released Loop 005 Select and has enjoyed widespread radio play.

But the biggest break for the duo came last year when TheUpbeats made contact with UK's drum'n'bass don DJ Digital. Both kept to their promise to stayin touch with The Upbeats sending tracks to Digital throughout last year. Digital liked what heheard and promptly signed The Upbeats to his very own Timeless Music Group - expect a vinylonly release of the single ‘Basket Case’ later this year.

In the last few months, tracks from TheUpbeats have been signed to German producer Typecell’s Protogen Recordings and threeprominent US labels: Hostile Recordings, Incite Recordings and Habit Recordings. The Upbeatsalso expect to release a single for New Zealand drum’n’bass label, Subtronix Recordings, laterthis year.

Perhaps most impressive was their achievement in getting four tracks signed to USlabel Vicious Music Group. Vicious is set to subsequently release tracks on their three labels: Ballistics Recordings, Afterlife Recordings and Mozaik Recordings.   An Aotearoa drum’n’bass showcase tour with Bulletproof, Concord Dawn and Shapeshifter is also scheduled for later this year.
