29th April 2009
They did it, South Auckland hip-hop group Smashproof have broken a 23-year-old record by holding the longest consecutive No. 1 spot by a Kiwi act on the NZ Singles Chart. According to RIANZ NZ Top 40 Singles Chart released Tuesday, April 28, Brother, featuring Gin Wigmore has now made NZ Chart history by holding the No. 1 spot for ten weeks running. The record for the longest run at No. 1 on the NZ Singles chart by a local act was previously set by the America’s Cup-themed single Sailing Away by All Of Us, which spent nine consecutive weeks at the top in 1986.
Smashproof say, We’re totally overwhelmed! We never expected Brother to get this big – we were stoked to get to number one, but breaking a record? That’s massive!
"We really just want to thank everyone who has supported the track and especially all the fans who have bought it”
