For the first time in the awards' long and illustrious history the 2009 APRA Silver Scroll Awards are to be held in Christchurch.Having given Wellington a crack a few years back APRA have decided to decamp from their normal Auckland experience and party this year in the Christchurch Town Hall, on Thursday September 17.
"The APRA Silver Scroll Awards are an extraordinary celebration of music." Says APRA's Director of NZ Operations, Anthony Healey. "We want share this experience with as many APRA members as possible around New Zealand. Christchurch, with its proud music tradition, will be an excellent venue for this big night out."
Presented since 1965 the APRA Silver Scroll Awards celebrate the creative excellence of our songwriters and composers - the Scroll Award itself presented these days along with the APRA Maioha Award and the SOUNZ Contemporary Award recognising outstanding compositions in both Maori and Classical music. Other annual nods go to the Most Performed Works here and overseas, and another surprise induction to the NZ Music Hall Of Fame.
