APRA announces the Silver Scroll Finalists

16th August 2007

APRA has announced the Finalists for the Silver Scroll Awards 2007

The Australasian Performing Rights Association today announced the five finalists from the pool of twenty nominees.
Sean Donnelly (SJD) gets a nod for Beautiful Haze
Ruban Neilson (The Mint Chicks) is up for Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!
Jason Kerrison, Bobby Kennedy, Matt Treacy & Clinton Harris (Opshop) are in with Maybe
Brooke Fraser comes through with Albertine
and Liam Finn beats his father in with Second Chance

This year has seen a change in the process for determining the finalists and winner. A panel of judges nominated by APRA convened the preliminary nominees list, and then the remaining process was handed over to APRA members who were able to log on, listen, read the lyrics and vote. Anthony Healey, APRAs Director of NZ Operations says that the feedback from APRA members and wider music community has been overwhelmingly positive in response to this new way of judging.

The finalists works will be performed at the APRA Silver Scroll Awards on Tuesday September 18 at the Auckland Town Hall, where a number of artists will perform their own interpretations of the top five songs. The winner of the Silver Scroll 2007 (as decided by APRAs members) will be announced along with the following awards:

SOUNZ Contemporary Award - recognising creative excellence by a NZ classical composer. The finalists are:
Christopher Blake for Anthem on the Kaipara
Eve de Castro-Robinson for These Arms to Hold You
Ross Harris for The Sleep Of Reason

The APRA Maioha Award presented for the best Te Reo Maori song of the year.
