Phoenix Foundation Gets Two Award Nominations

4th August 2004

The Phoenix Foundation have made it through to the finals in two catagories of the Vodafone NZ Music Awards. Their debut album 'Horsepower' is in the finals for Best Sleeve Design and Best Engineer.

Tana Mitchell from Flux Design in Auckland got the nod for Best Sleeve Design and Wellington-based producer/engineer/knob-twiddler/Black Seed Dr Lee Prebble has been nominated in the Best Engineer category. Lee and Barnaby 'Flash Harry' Weir first brought Phoenix Foundation to Capital's attention by putting Blue Summer and Scene From A Video on the 'Capitalbase1' compilation they put together in April 2002.

In the second item of news, the second Audio Sauce album 'Contimental Drift' will be released via BMG on August 30. Featuring 24 tracks (13 songs, 11 interludes), Miles 'Audio Sauce' Tilly has been working on this record for two years this month. Alongside the music itself, Jeremy '50Hz' Geor worked on mastering, Tana Mitchell provided the sleeve design and Eric Wang took care of photographic duties.

Audio Sauce will be popping in for a chat with Nick Dwyer on C4's 'Soundlab' this Wednesday night (10.30pm Aug 4). He'll hopefully have a mock-up of the CD's digipack to wave around too, as well as some copies of the 12" to give away.

Third up, STYLUS77 are hitting the road nationwide throughout August to promote their debut album 'STYLUS77' and play new material which they'll be going into the studio to record in September.

The tour dates are as follows: Thurs Aug 5 - Odeon Lounge, Auckland / Fri Aug 6 - Basement Bar, New Plymouth / Thurs Aug 12 - King's Arms, Auckland / Sat Aug 14 - Top Of the Pops, Auckland / Wed Aug 18 - O'Flaherty's, Napier / Thur Aug 19 - Bar Bodega, Wellington / Fri Aug 20 - Yaza Cafe, Nelson / Sat Aug 21 - Dux du Lux, Christchurch. STYLUS77 will also being playing several dates with Lucid 3 in late September, more news on this as they confirm dates & venues.

STYLUS77 will be talking with Clarke Gayford on C4's 'Homegrown Late' this Thursday (10.30pm Aug 5), the same night as they open their tour at the Odeon Lounge in Auckland, and also performing on TV2/Satellite Media's 'Top Of The Pops' on Saturday August 14.

Definite & Bling are playing two gigs in Auckland on the night of Friday August 20th. They'll be performing in the early part of the evening at Papatoetoe High School as part of the 'Hiprock' all-ages gig alongside: Lazarus, Flo On Show, Fast Crew and Misfits Of Science. Later that night they'll be at Rakinos with DJ P-Lee.
