New contemporary music diploma @ Unitec
The Diploma in Contemporary Music (DipConMus) is being offered at Unitec's
Waitakere campus in Henderson this year and gives students hands-on
experience performing, composing and making music using the latest
technology, as well as an understanding of the business side of the music
industry.
The programme reflects an increasingly diverse music scene and students work
together on band and ensemble performances, composing new music and learning
about music production.
It also gives music teachers the chance to update their expertise by working
with state-of-the-art technology and learning about a variety of musical
styles and heritages - from Maori and Pacific to European and Afro-American.
The programme director is Dr Glenda Keam, one of only a handful of academics
with a PhD in New Zealand music - her research looked at the connections
between music and New Zealand's national identity.
It's not too late to study in 2007 - apply now for mid-year enrolment.

Récollets - artist residencies in Paris (5th edition)
The Paris City Council and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs offer a
prestigious artist-in-residence programme to 25 foreign artists of all
artistic disciplines (including performing arts), in renovated studios in
the heart of Paris, along the Saint-Martin Canal.
Artists are selected by a committee on the basis of a project that they
would like to develop in Paris during their residency. This project can be
in the form of an invitation from a Parisian cultural institution or a
personal artistic project.
Candidates must have at least 5 years experience as professional artists and
have performed/exhibited their work in overseas or in contemporary art
festivals overseas.
The residencies are granted for a 3-month period, depending on the artist's
proposal (a shorter period may be granted exceptionally by the committee for
a specific project)
The Paris City Council's Cultural Affairs Department gives practical
assistance to the artists and facilitates meetings with cultural
institutions, according to the artists' requests.
An allowance of 1500 euros per month is granted to the artists by the French
Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The work-studio-apartments measure 50-85 m2 in a renovated former convent
Couvent des Récollets. They are furnished, linen is supplied and they are
cleaned twice a week.
Return travel to Paris must be covered by the artists or artists'
institutions.
