Established by Wellington music veterans Ian Pepperell and Kim Leach, Old Studio 9 (OS9) is primarily focused on providing young musicians, promoters and music lovers with a quality live venue and secondly encouraging them to get out there and become involved in the local music industry.
OS9 is also available as a rehearsal space for bands and Ian and Kim hope to see many of this year's Smokefree Rockquest entrants develop their performances thanks to this new all ages venue.
OS9 is an alcohol free venue with atmosphere, a full inhouse P.A, lighting rig and a maximum capacity of 400 attendees. Serving Foxton Fizz soft drinks on site, OS9 hopes to provide an enjoyable alternative to bar venues.
Last month punk legend and founder of the 'Straight Edge' movement Ian Mackaye from Washington DC (Fugazi, Minor Threat) performed at the OS9 as part of duo The Evens. On April 28th audiences can see National 2006 Smokefree Rockquest winners Neil Robinson (Christchurch) in action.
On the average night at OS9, the door charge is $5 for under 18s and $10 for over 18s. The venue opens at 7.30pm and shows are wrapped up by 11.30pm.
OS9 is very keen to help any new young bands that are looking to get stage time under their belts.
