On New Year's Eve The Orphans Will Arise
5th December 2006
The Urban Orphans' Uprising is a New Years' Eve gig with the aim of celebrating inner-city Auckland bands. Celebrating in true inner-city suburb style, the gig kicks off in the afternoon and runs through until late - you can enjoy a bit of barbecue action in the garden bar as well.
Organiser Mike Clarkin says that inspiration on for or the event developed out of conversations with bands and friends who felt that Auckland was under-represented as a New Year's location.
"The more people I spoke to, the more I realised Auckland needed an event that celebrated our vibrant live culture, and got away from the idea that you needed to be out of Auckland to fully appreciate our music", said Clarkin. "It's quite political in that sense and more than an 'event'. Urban Orphans' Uprising is as asking Aucklanders to be proud of their roots and get out there and support our music."
