Minuit European Tour A Resounding Success
21st November 2006
Minuit are home and safe now after what sounds like a blinder of a tour. Promoting the European release of their Fuji 12-inch, the breaks trio were gone for most of October and some of November, during which they played shows in Helsinki, Tampere (Finland), Stavanger (Norway), London, Brighton, Cork (Ireland) and Berlin.
The band were asked to play the main room at the sold-out FabricLive birthday weekend bash, alongside Adam Freeland, Plump DJs, Stanton Warriors and AliB, eventually playing to a 2,500 strong crowd. Due to a lack of available tickets to that show for ex-pat Kiwis that might have wanted a taste of home, the UK-based Spacific crew put on an extra night at London's Rhythm Factory especially for Minuit, with support from Funknslocuts aka Minuit's own Ryan Beehre.
The record, which includes a Funknslocuts remix, was played on popular yoof culture radio stations XFM, Passion FM and Kiss Fm, with Alyx Duncan's award winning video for Fuji eliciting mucho props thanks to the likes of YouTube.
In Norway the group played a Breakbeat special for the Stavanger NuMusic Festival, where a confused local reporter wrote them up as "All the way from New Zealand. Breakfast Special!". Thanks to such great publicity, Minuit have now had more invites to return for various Summer music festivals than they know what to do with.
Amongst the bevy of new fans and admirers:
"Fuji, in its three mixes, explores beats with a refreshing gravelly edge. Wicked live sounding breaks and plenty of cool noises shows these guys may be popular in their native New Zealand, but they are not 'pop pap'...The world needs more breakbeat like this"
- Rennie Pilgrim, iDJ review
"I really like the Minuit sound. Kind of reminds me of Breakbeat Era in the vocal delivery. Both original and remixes are great."
- Richard Lurch, Knowledge Magazine
"I expected something quite close to Kosheen, but luckily this is way better. I will definitely check them out playing live when they're in Berlin."
- Sven Fortmann, Editor, LoDown Magazine (Germany)
"An engaging bunch of New Zealanders...she reminds me of Ronnie Size's Breakbeat Era crew, but with better hair."
- DJ Magazine
