Gray Bartlett Takes On The New Freedom

3rd October 2005
In a novel twist, Auckland-based pop/rock three-piece band The New Freedom aim to kick off the recording of their first mainstream album release by surveying New Zealand music fans.

Representation of the band has recently been snapped up by legendary agent/promoter Gray Bartlett - the man most famous recently for being behind the extraordinary success of New Zealand artists Yulia andHayley Westenra.

The New Freedom, originally a solo project headed by 2004 Silver Scroll song of the year finalist Marshall Smith, has now developed into a 3 piece band - who are now starting work on their first mainstream album release. Tom Fox, award winning South African guitarist, songwriter, and producer, and Auckland-based singer/songwriter Duncan Jackson now complete the group.

The band hit upon the idea of surveying New Zealand music fans' tastes as a way of obtaining feedback on the new album's direction and sound, whilst at the same time giving them more specific information on who listens to and buys their music! The survey aims to focus the bands efforts on what their fans want and to tailor tours and promotion more readily towards where their fans see or buy music. Fans are being offered the chance to win Sounds Music vouchers by participating in the online survey through the band's website.

The New Freedom is currently writing songs and commencing pre-production for the new album together with rehearsals for upcoming acoustic gigs in Auckland.

To find out more about the band, listen to some sample tracks and participate in the survey (and be in to win Sounds Music vouchers!) please check out:
