Apply Now To Play South by Southwest 2006

30th August 2005

For the benefit of Australian & NZ artists the SxSW website has opened one week earlier than anticipated. If you have been thinking about applying to perform in Austin, Texas next year it’s possible to get your submissions in early.

In its 20th year, the world's most prestigious music industry gathering, South by Southwest Music Festival and Conferences, has opened its applications for artist showcases. To be held March 15-19, SxSW 2006 will attract over 10,000 attendees and feature some 1250+ performances across five nights in over 50 venues. Submissions to perform are now being accepted on the SxSW website at

www.sxsw.com

Last year, over 7500 artists applied for the juried selection process by first applying online and then sending CD, bio and other info to the Austin headquarters of SxSW where the submission period is two months with a deadline of October 24.

For artists who wish to apply for showcasing, the cost is US$10 through the SxSW website, where they register their details and create an account online first and then send their music and supporting documentation as soon as this is done. The price rises to US$20 from October 1 and the deadline for applications is October 24 when all materials must be received in Austin. Successful artists will be notified of their invitation in late November.

Of the NZ contingent who performed at SxSW 2005, The Coolies have recently returned from shows in Australia; The Have are set to work on their debut album with producerBarrett Jones (Nirvana,Foo Fighters); Jakob are about to embark on a tour of Australia, the UK and Europe; The Mint Chicks made Spin Magazine’s Top 10 moments of SxSW and are currently on tour in Australia; and Pluto have recently returned from shows in the UK.
