'Respect 2004: The Road's No Playground' - at the Supertop on Saturday, June 12 - will showcase top-charting acts Scribe and Adeaze along with Ardijah and
, breakers, DJs and celebrity guests.
Staged by the Land Transport Safety Authority in association with Mai FM 88.6, the award-winning event is aimed at Maori and Polynesian parents and caregivers to encourage them to teach their children about the dangers of playing on or near the road.
Mai FM 88.6's Toni Urlich says this is the second year the Land Transport Safety Authority has invested in a New Zealand music event to promote road safety.
"Respect 2003 was held at the Lakeside Dome in Mangere to a capacity crowd, picking up an award for the best of use of radio at the 2004 Media Awards. This year, the event is expected to attract more than 10,000 people, who will get to see and hear some of New Zealand's finest performers for free.
"In return, parents, caregivers and older siblings are asked to make sure their children are supervised on and around the road."
According to the Land Transport Safety Authority, too many kids are hurt on roads every year. "Respect '04 is an excellent way to help highlight the fact that: 'Our kids are being run over, the road's no playground'."
