Nesian Mystik on Coast Tonight

12th July 2005

Having been quiet on the home front for some time, fresh young Polyfunkers Nesian Mystik are in the whare this week (Thursday July 14) live and direct to warm up the live studio audience with their infectious vibes. The five-part multi-Polynesian band joins Coast hosts Brent Mio, Kara Rickard and Taaz for a dynamite mid-winter line-up. Also featuring on this week’s show are critically-acclaimed group Lucid 3, two-part rock outfit Rezinator and destructively punk outfit This Night Creeps.

In celebration of Maori Language Week (which runs from Monday July 25 -  Sunday July 31) Maori Television’s live urban music show features kapa haka group Te Putahitanga Rangatahi o te Rautahi, Moana and The Tribe, Ask Your Aunties' Aunty Mabel, Maori Television presenter Julian Wilcox and Maori hip-hop/reggae outfit Tohu with special guest DJ Poroufessor.

Get down to Maori Television, 9-15 Davis Crescent, Newmarket, Auckland on Thursday July 28 to join in the celebrations.

Maori Language Week began in 1975 and Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori/Maori Language Commission, Te Puni Kokiri/Ministry of Maori Development and Te Kahui Tika Tangata/Human Rights Commission started working together in 2003 to coordinate activities to mark the week.

Kôrero Mâori, Give It a Go/ Kia kaha ake, is this year's Mâori Language Week theme. The aim is to encourage New Zealanders to have a go at speaking Mâori and to create a supportive environment for this to happen.
