2004 started off with a bang for Auckland band Slavetrader with a rooftop apartment party on Auckland's K-Road, and the addition of Mr Andy Halford to the Slavetrader ranks. His addition on second guitar has solidified the Slavetrader sound and line up. The band have just finished filming their latest video clip Nothing To Lose, and will be embarking on a two month New Zealand and Australian tour in May. They will return to Auckland to begin recording their debut album in July.
Slavetrader were formed in March 2002 when Matt Alien left South Island underground rock'n'roll legends The Hi-Tone Destroyers to move to Auckland. Matt was joined shortly after by Mr James Jett, also well known in the Christchurch music scene. After trying a number of drummers they were joined by Paul St. Paul, who had just left well known Auckland band The Rock And Roll Machine, and completed an Australian tour drumming for The D4.
August 2003 saw Slavetrader make their first trip across the Tasman for a week of shows in Melbourne. Before leaving for Melbourne the band had time to record two new songs The People's Party and Shit Happens, When You Party Naked with Dion and Vaughan from the D4 at the controls. Slavetrader finished 2003 with a return trip to Australia and more shows around Auckland, clocking up an impressive total of 63 gigs for the year.
