Frank Gibson at the London Bar

Last Thursday (15 June 06) saw the return of The Frank Gibson Jazz Quartet to the Civic Tavern's London Bar for the first of a four-Thursday residency. About time too. IMHO, this is what Auckland has lacked since....oh , probably the last time Frank played at the dear old London Bar.
With fellow musos supreme Murray McNabb (keys), Kim Patterson (trumpet) and Andrew Atwill (bass) this quartet delivered a brain-blistering multi-set jazzfest that left me reeling.
As the crowd picked up during the evening the band stepped up the level of their performance. From early on I was riveted to the spot as wave after wave of patterns and stylings produced a tidal barrage of the senses. Just as one wildly executed solo would finish the tempo would raise again and a new, equally satisfying tangent was explored. Great playing. If you're a musician, music lover, artist and/or intellectual you will love this latest incarnation of the Frank Gibson Jazz quartet.
Leaving the venue I felt like I 'd witnessed a force of nature. One that I'm keen to experience again....and for the next three Thursdays I can.
