SFRQ regional results 2012 - Bay of Plenty

19 June 2012

Three-piece band Sunday Best from St Peter’s school in Cambridge won the Bay of Plenty Smokefreerockquest regional final at the Baycourt Theatre on Saturday night.

Second place went to Six Gun Quota from Katikati College.

These top two bands will go on to compete for one of eight national finalist spots in this year’s Smokefreerockquest national final at Claudelands in Hamilton on 22 September.

The eight national finalists will be selected from a pool made up of first and second place-getters from each of the 24 regional finals, and bands from Rockshop Second Chance, an opportunity for established bands who feel they didn’t play at their best on the night.

Other regional awards made on Saturday night:

Third place: RPM from Mt Maunganui College and Tauranga Boys' College

Smokefree Award For Women’s Musicianship and the APRA Lyric Award: Georgia Lines from Bethlehem College

Lowdown Best Song: Kevin Kang from Otumoetai College

The Mainz Musicianship Award with the opportunity to be selected for the $4500 MAINZ Scholarship, announced at the national final: Isaac Andrew from Tauranga Boys' College

Skinny People’s Choice voted by text: The M Six from Aquinas College
