Hardfill: Hardfill

Hardfill is the latest brainchild of Equuslive, a collective of Christchurch-based artists (who also release work as Equus, Intermission, and Abandon). This self-titled album is a nice collection of Bon Jovi-esque guitar rock and enthusiastic funk and while the mixture of the two is somewhat surprising, this ain't too bad at all. I have to say, there are moments when the lyrics hit the cliché button, but there are plenty of other times when they get it right. Hardfill consider themselves a "gigging band in its own right", and perhaps as a result, the album has that live-recording feel to it. No doubt this is one of those bands you really must go and see in the flesh, but make sure you get a listen to this album first.
