Nathan Haines: Right Now

By Martyn Pepperell
Nathan Haines, our most well known and respected jazz fusion musician, returns with his sixth solo album release, a breathtaking work of jazz electronica likely to send shivers up and down the spines of listeners. Recording in his own Auckland home studio, Haines has teamed up with long time collaborators Vanessa Freeman, Mike Patto and Tama Waipara. He also roped in the very talented Chris Cox for drum programming and secured appearances from the likes of English rapper TY and the infamous Marlena Shaw amongst others. The sound is of open and dynamic jazz-driven digital dance grooves that could just as easily soundtrack your next lazy Sunday brunch, decorated with gorgeously toned vocal performances on tunes such as Creation Calling. The icing on the cake is the exceptional mixing, engineering and mastering done in LA and London with Felix Hopkins, Mike Patto and Dave Cooley, as BBC's Benji B would say, it has beautiful depth and clarity. 'Right Now' is a must listen!
