Craig Denham: Fusion Café Breakfast Sandwich
By Roxie Haines
Multi-instrumentalist Craig Denham's debut album could be described as traditional Celtic music mixed with electronica - combined with the global effect his travels have had. Over the years Craig has explored the music of different countries, religions and time periods of history with a particular interest in Turkish, Japanese, Irish and Egyptian cultures. This fusion of cultures can be distinctively heard in tracks such as Vindaloo Tatties where Craig has cleverly blended the Irish sound of the whistle and the fiddle, with variations on the Indian raga scale. The tabla mixed with the bass groove also provides an interesting jazz/funk sound. Craig recorded the keys, accordion and whistles himself, while he was travelling. He was also responsible for all the programming. Alex Griffith later recorded the drums and bass (his own) in his home studio in Karaka Bay. Other musicians on the album include harmonica virtuoso Brendan Power, Chris Koole (drums) John Highstead (percussion), John Chapman (guitar) and Juliette Primrose on violin. This is easy listening music that would be well at home in any café or beach house.
