Rubicon: Primary

By Reuben Harper
Known primarily for being the band with cool, goofing-around music videos (seen the quirky Bruce or recent Happy Song clip?) and for having bad-boy Shortland Street star Paul Reid in the band, I had to wonder are these guys serious, seriously amusing or both? Well right from the start this album rocks! Rubicon City sets the scene with party-friendly guitar riffs and infectious melody lines. Funny Boy is up next - a rock-solid tune captured with all the intensity and vibe of a live gig. Yeah Yeah (Rockstar) follows - a perfect pop song with punk rock inflections and humorously jaded lines like "Yeah yeah, just another rock star / thinks he's gonna go far". The band have their own distinct sound and were so dedicated they did much of the production themselves. Recorded at Revolver Studios the quality is pristine, it is well mixed and there are many captivating moments. Hey - a little goofing around never hurt the Foo Fighters! Distributed through Universal Records.
