THE TWITCH: What The F**k Is Going On

By Alistar Wickens
When the Twitch CD tumbled out of the latest delivery from NZ Musician I thought this review had already written itself. Punk isn't renowned for its innovation, based on the experiences of my 'mis-spent' youth, although there are, of course, some fantastic exceptions to that generalisation. The Twitch turn out to be one of those exceptions. I put the CD on and braced myself for some dirty punk-style rock. Within seconds of the opening riff I could barely contain the urge to get up and dance, dancing being a rare event for me - in any genre. Sure, the lyrics are nothing too cerebral but they don't need to be with music this fun. The band is tight, the riffs are rollicking and singer Fleur Jack (now a full-time Kiwi FM DJ) has a strong, distinctive, voice that fits the music well. In their bio the Twitch promise an amazing live show. After giving this 2006 release a few energetic listens I'd expect nothing less.
