THE RECLOOSE LIVE BAND: Backwards and Sideways - Live at the San Francisco Bathhouse
By Shaun Chait
Although he spent years hiding out in his Detroit studio, Recloose has hardly lived up to his moniker since arriving in our capital. Firmly embedded in the social circle/whanau that is the Welli music collective, he has entwined a few of the usual suspects into his live band, charged with the task of bringing his creations out from the computer and onto the stage. The ensuing 8-piece reward keen listeners with a tasty disco dance funk boogie-athon. Recorded over two nights last year at the bar previously known as Indigo in Wellington by Andrew Downes and Mike Gibson (who also plays a major hand in mixing and mastering), it's a non-stop gas. Sweet Power Your Embrace and the Landed/Living From The Mind medley are among the choicest cuts. Like many of his musical buds, Recloose is intent on establishing a groove, and once he's done that all hell breaks loose. Tastier than the food at the Cuba St Carnival, and out now on his own label Fingertips Records.
