RAS JUDAH: Jah Warrior
By Martyn Pepperell
Contemporary rastafarian reggae performed by a mixture of African and NZ musicians all pinned together by professional reggae musician, performer and composer Ras Judah. This is Judah's personal record of a decade of musical travel and performance that has taken him from his Botswana homeland across the globe and finally found him settling here. It is a mixture of recordings from Africa and NZ using a variety of musicians and both analogue and digital recording techniques. The album was completed at Hope Street Studio in Nelson with Rhys Clark and Minuit's Ryan Beehre handing mastering duties. Judah's music retains a strong late '60s /early '70s reggae vibe and will appeal to fans of Studio One and Trojan recordings. Simple but powerful lyricism underpinned by the classic guitar and organ arrangements that in conjunction with the 'one drop' really make reggae what it is.
