BOB BICKERTON: The Likes Of Us
By Rachel Fallon
Aye this'll be a very talented Irish-influenced Kiwi then. He has
written the music, words, engineered, mastered, played all of the instruments and even taken the photographs and arranged the
artwork himself. I'd say there's not many as talented as the likes of Nelson's Bob Bickerton alright. More seriously, I thoroughly enjoyed this album which could be listened to just as well on a Sunday afternoon as at any shindig. This is the third solo album from the English-born multi-instrumentalist who successfully draws his influences from frequent visits to Ireland and strong Irish family ties. The tear jerking Collier's Widow and entertaining Greater Than Creation are stand out tracks for me, amalgamating the traditional style of story telling with a NZ
perspective. Top quality musicianship from a prominent member of the local Celtic music scene and crisp recording make this a highly recommendable work. Recorded, of course, at his home studio and released on Bob's own label, further info and availability to
purchase can be found at www.bickerton.co.nz.
