MIKEY ROCKWELL: Kung Fu Kitchen

By Martyn Pepperell
This is the debut offering from an Auckland underground hip-hop artist, released on his own label Rockwell Records. Influenced by artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes and The Roots, Mikey delivers a set of artistic and musical instrumentals laced with honest poetic rhymes. All songs were produced, mixed, engineered and recorded in his home studio (The Kitchen), then mastered by Eugene Grobbelaar. Guest artists include Timothy William on keys and synths and Seizma providing vocals. A great believer in the community aspect on hip hop, Mikey aims to expand the knowledge of both hip hoppers and the general public to what this genre truly has to offer to the world. 'Kung Fu Kitchen' leans towards the local school established by artists such as Kolab, Definate and Bling, Ill Semantics and Bjorn from Open Souls. If that's your cup of tea I would recommend giving it a listen.
