Auckland five-piece Revolver have taken the rock sound popularised a couple of years ago by bands like The Strokes, mixed in a little funk, a little '60s rock and a whole lotta fun. And that's what makes the album so enjoyable - you can tell the band have fun playing. 'Parlour Games' has been receiving favourable reviews all over the show since its' release late last year and even on the first listen it was easy to see why. Well-crafted and catchy tunes line up one after the other and there's not a dud on the whole album - a rare feat for any band, although the two years spent putting it together would have helped strengthen the songwriting and performing. I can see thisbeing thrown on at many a party over the next year, safe in the knowledge that it'll go down a treat with almost any crowd. It's almost the perfect soundtrack to a party, The Stomp in particular had me imagining some Tarantino-esque dance off.
