Justin Funk Monkey: Rise

This 7-track offering from Southland's Justin Funk Monkey (or J Funk) is "big on guitars, big on tunes and big on personality" - to use their own words. It's good to see a band who share the songwriting around all four of them, and who all contribute vocally as well as instrumentally. Richard Waters is singer and guitarist, Mark Hewton guitarist, Peter White drums and Chris Chilton plays bass. The boys have chosen a great name, as their brand of rock is very funky - think Chili Peppers in the music, with a Tenacious D vibe to the vocals. 'Rise' was engineered and co-produced by Craig Allott, another Southland talent. You should not only try to get your paws on this recording but keep a look out for the band because their future is bright.
