The Cattlestops: Cattlestoppin'
By Tim Page
This is country music standing proud. If you're a Grand Ole Oprey devotee, this album is for you! Kapiti musos Andrew London (guitar and vocal), Dave Berry (guitar and vocal) and James Cameron (double bass and vocal) found fruition of their musical aspirations when they teamed up with well known fiddler Colleen Trenwith, formerly of the legendary Hamilton County Bluegrass Band and former Southside of Bombay drummer Evan Williams. What has resulted is this feel-good mixture of 13 originals and covers. Recorded at Audiosuite in Paraparaumu, 'Cattlestoppin'' is resplendent with sounds true to the country tradition. I find myself transported back to black and white TV, and That's Country, back when TVNZ put their efforts into light entertainment. Only this time the sound quality is so much better. These guys are seasoned performers, experts in their craft as belied by the very apparent cohesion of the album. I imagine their live act to be even better.
