Equuslive: Blue Horse Compilation
By Kent Walsdorf
‘Blue Horse Compilation 1999-2006’ is a selection of their finest tracks along with five previously unreleased songs. The Christchurch band has undergone a number of changes in their line up over the years which means a massive number of musicians feature on this album. 19 to be exact, ranging from the Christchurch Polytech jazz tutor John Bevin to ex-Midnight Oil member Michel Russell. Working in a blues genre, Equuslive’s strength is the cross-pollination between other fields of music. From the funky Stop by Corero’s to the kinda jazzy, lazy Sunday Mouthpiece, this album is a well rounded show of musical talent. Guitar solos forever, a drummer that can shuffle and some great vamping keys are certainly some of the highlights. A recommended listen for you blue boys and girls out there. www.equuslive.co.nz
