Black Chrome: Black Chrome

By Stephanie Gray
Black Chrome rip through ten little bombs of songs in 22 minutes, starting with the anthemic crowd-pleaser My Band. If you’ve seen the Palmerston North punkers in action you will have seen what that particular song does to people as they scuffle for the mic to shout the infamous chorus “My band is a front for an Internet porn ring". Their debut album follows an EP and preceeded a European tour. The songs are stripped-back, blistered and
raucous with vocals from all three – guitarist Wolfgang, bassist Jimmy Snuff and drummer Von Chrome. This is the first Chrome album, but the three sharpened their punk in former bands 7.62 Short, Snus, GMC and State of Hate. There’s more than a nod to the Ramones in songs like Daphne is a Punk, and brutal truth in their lyrics. When they sing about waking up in the gutter, and of sin and addiction, you believe them.
