Keith Palmer: Sitting On The Fence
By Tim Page
Originally released in 2000, 'Sitting On The Fence’ was recorded on a Yamaha MD8 digital 8-track minidisc recorder and mastered at Christchurch’s Redd Acoustics. It is not at all a bad advertisement for the MD8. Keith and Shonah Palmer wrote the songs, and Keith performed all instruments and vocals. His versatility is further demonstrated in the diversity of music styles represented. Ranging from the musically mellow yet lyrically intense Snow Tree, through the aptly titled Busted Down Blues, to the hard rock City of Thieves, Palmer’s impressively diverse guitar and vocal ability is well demonstrated. The album has enough of the raw reality that I appreciate, i.e. not compressed into a two-dimensional wall of noise, without sounding amateurish. It is released on the Shiek Productions label from Christchurch.
