Evermore: Real Life
By Tessa Prebble
Who'd have thought three teenage brothers from Feilding could create a sound so mature, unique and worldly they would be snapped up by Warner Music in Australia, release a debut album which would receive five Aria nominations there and win an APRA Silver Scroll here, as well as an MTV Australia award. Australia is on the brink of claiming these boys as their own. With this, their sophomore album, New Zealand is getting another chance to take notice of the Hume brothers' hauntingly resonant sound. From the eerie delicacy of debut 'Dreams', Evermore have developed a fuller, richer sound with this latest effort. The adolescent emotions have given way to something more upbeat and direct. Where 'Dreams' was filled with staccato, almost creepy melodies, 'Real Life' fills in the gaps with a full band effect. The continuing element is of course the insightful songwriting, and lead singer Jon Hume's head turning vocals.
