Lighthouse Audio: Think Outside
By Peter Dent
Lighthouse Audio is not only the name of this recording act, it's also the name of Raymond Salisbury's private recording studio in Tauranga. Salisbury has produced an almost entirely solo album here. On the impressive liner notes, he is credited with: songwriting, vocals, guitars, piano, synths, drums, bass, recording, mixing, photography, graphic design, website design and video. Although there are several others involved on the album, it's definitely Salisbury's gig. The 14 original tracks fall between the folk genre and acoustic rock, written and recorded over a three year period, where Salisbury "searched for his own style". He has used the great outdoors as inspiration for several of the songs, and for much of the cover photography. The remainder of the tunes are ballads, which "tell of the life and death of loved ones". If you love Kiwi-sounding, fun, light-hearted music in the folk/rock arena, this is for you.
