POM: Lost Contact
By Martyn Pepperell
'Lost Contact' is the soundtrack CD of a tour de force in "no budget" film making of the same name. I wish I had seen the film and could comment, but I haven't and we're here to talk about the music. It looks like the film is a variation on Snatch or Lock, Stock... anyhow the soundtrack is composed and performed by POM (aka Andrew Crawford), who also happens to be the film's producer/director and screenplay writer. Crawford is a NZ citizen living in the UK. He is also a stellar guitarist and drummer as tracks such as Propeller illustrate most eloquently. Most of the tracks on the CD start with a short snippet of dialogue from the film then drop into a mixture of flamenco guitar workouts, hard drumming and the odd atmospheric ambient production, very eerie stuff! Full of dirty, gritty feeling it covers a diverse range of musical moods, definitely one for lovers of more sophisticated guitarwork. Available via www.lost-contact.com
