Bleeders: As Sweet as Sin
By Chris Leggett
It took re-listening to their ‘A Bleeding Heart’ EP - a recording that I truly do love - to really appreciate how far the Bleeders have come. Sure this is a far-cry from the frenetic pace and overall energy of that debut EP, but my initial disappointment has subsided and the album has become my Bleeders’ disc of choice. The songs - while generally slower and certainly more accessible - are also more structurally satisfying. For fellow fans of the EP there’s the blistering punk-rock tribute S.O.S. and Femme Fatale. The production is exceptional, as you’d expect of such a high recording budget. Frontman Angelo Munro’s vocals have come on in leaps and bounds, but unfortunately his lyricism hasn’t. On Nightmares - otherwise a superb song - he lets the team down a little with weak and repetitive lyrics. Similarly, It’s Black II suffers from some uninspired wordsmithery. Still, with the exception of a less-urgent A Bleeding Heart - the only EP song to appear on the full-length - this Bleeders record has rendered an exceptional EP obsolete in almost every way.
