Brooke Fraser: What To Do With Daylight

By Mahinarangi Tocker
Brooke Fraser is stunning! Her voice is honest with it’s own kindness and depth of honesty. Her songs are melodious, her lyrics strong, and I’m so glad to hear an album by someone so young, where each word can be understood. This 19-year-old woman has a depth in her approach to sound and lyric, which take me on personal journeys of my own. Fraser hits from the heart and sings from somewhere very personal. This album has been lovingly and well produced. Fantastic musicians surround Fraser’s 'soul’ in musical clothing that can easily be shaded dark, embraced in light and worn warmly. Fraser composes, sings, plays piano and guitar, and represents her age group with adult responsibility. She rocks! I haven’t been knocked over so excitedly since the early ’70s when Shona Laing, as a 17 year old, first introduced Aotearoa to her wonderful sounds. Fraser influences with goodness, cynicism and fun. Out on Columbia/ Sony Records.
