Chris Knox and the Nothing: Chris Knox and the Nothing
By Martyn Pepperell
It's good to know that Chris Knox is still open to trying new things, taking risks and experimenting. I mean hell, he recorded 'Chris Knox and The Nothing' in a real studio and has released it on his own imprint (A Major Label), with distribution by Rhythmethod. There is something really eerie about hearing his music so clean and well recorded. The story seems to be that Mr. Knox became sick of a few patterns he had set in regards to the creation of music and the music industry so he teamed up with Stefan Neville and Jol Mulholland, threw in a few extra players and a string section and knocked out his ninth solo album in a few short weeks at MAINZ in Auckland. The result is an engaging adventure through the hard and soft extremes of lo-fi (but studio tweaked) semi electronic rock/pop music. Varied song writing, epic brass and string work, tight focused drums and on point guitar and bass lines. A good deal more than nothing.
