Donald Reid: In a Taxi Home
By Tony Parker
Singer/songwriter Donald Reid is no stranger to the music business having performed in bands both here and overseas, as well co-writing a number of songs with brother James for The Feelers. 'In A Taxi Home' finds Reid showcasing his own take on adult oriented rock, one that is heavy on anthemic choruses, melodic hooks, chiming guitars and lyrically mature songs that explore the many facets of life, love and relationships going wrong. It's a polished album that has Reid and his brother handling guitar and keyboard duties in front of an all star rhythm section of Bones Hillman and Mike Franklin-Browne while Georgina Cooper's cello adds an interesting contrast to the dominant guitar sound of some songs. Overall it's a solid first effort with the emphasis on quality production and an AC radio sound that works well at presenting another of this country's quality contemporary singer/songwriters.
