Cat! Cat! Cat!: Cat! Cat! Cat!
By Kent Walsdorf
Walls of aggressive fuzzing guitars, driving antagonistic drumming and the indifferent hypnotic yet melodic vocal delivery all weave together to make Cat! Cat! Cat! an intensely intriguing, lo-fi sonic rock experience. The front cover artwork will give you a good insight to what they are all about. Hailing from Auckland, this four piece band's self-titled debut was recorded and mixed in December 2003 at the Killing Rooms studio by Phil Kusabs. It shows us that they hold the vitality of their live experience over flawless musicianship and production surgery which is admirable in today's market. Songs like Boy Trouble and Cat! Cat! Cat! are both dynamic and incredibly explosive, a touch rough around the edges but secure and confident nonetheless and are indicative of what the band represent. Having decided to take a guerrilla approach to clawing into the music scene, the band deliver stinted bursts of gigs, backed by regular releases and judging from this album their live show will be a fascinating spectacle with a vigorous atmosphere
