Poisoners: Poisoners

By Chris Leggett
No other Kiwi band could so comfortably slot into the roster of popular US street-punk/ska label Hellcat Records as Auckland's Poisoners - at least not while remaining so distinctly Kiwi-sounding. Their brand of dirty punk-tinged ska with keys is reminiscent of The Managers, infused with a bit of Rancid and (dare I say it) Transplants - and it rocks! The lyrics are clever and insightful too, with topics ranging from the war in Iraq in the catchy Searching for Weapons , the public health system in Health for the Wealthy and er, dodging policemen in Pt Chev Cops. Highly recommended for fans of The Voodoo Glow Skulls and Hellcat artists. Or for that matter, anyone who likes a bit of attitude in their ska - I imagine one would be torn between skanking and pogoing at a Poisoners show!
