Babymash: Nipples
By Martyn Pepperell
A handscrawled press-release I could barley decipher, poorly printed CD-Cover and a budget CD pressing. I had to remind myself, looks can be deceiving, and in a sense they were, but in another way it was all so spot on. Fans of lo-fi indie rock/folk with light electronic elements will love Glenn Fletcher's new CD, a work of extraordinary self-examination and personal honesty, recorded during battles with manic depression over the course of a rough, rough 2005. Not the most accessible work at first listen, but the musicality has a certain something to it. A sense of sanity riding on the verge of insanity, the aural equivalent of a sunny day tempered with something dark floating in the background, dark but kinda funny. This may sound cliched, but trying to review this CD in words felt more and more like listening to architecture. 'Nipples' and the rest of Glenn Fletcher's back catalogue can be ordered through babymash_music@yahoo.com
