Channel Thirteen/Molly Says Go: Channel Thirteen vs. Molly Says Go

By Alice Moult
Stakeout Records in Palmerston has just released this split album from two of New Zealand's freshest punk bands - Channel Thirteen and Molly Says Go. MSG is a dynamic, catchy, pop-hooked punk band with a hint of ska prevalent throughout their songs. The quality of songwriting is high and they're a fun, fast and energetic summer-surf sounding band. Channel Thirteen, on the other hand, is a slightly more amateurish sounding punk outfit. They're tight, I'll give them that, but the lead and backing vocals need a bit of work. They are introspective and complex, adding emotional themes to their melodic hardcore ideas. Overall an average punk album.
